The body of a caravan requires the most regular overhaul and maintenance. Caravan roofs are usually made up of metal cladding panels and a variety of vinyl materials, which are easily damaged by the breath of the wind and rain, etc., and may leak if subjected to sun, wind and rain for a long period of time. The various metal panels of the roof and body are usually held in place by adhesive and metal screws, which are distributed around the edges, air vents, air conditioners, or other parts of the vehicle. If exposed to direct sunlight, the vinyl shell will eventually crack and moisture will penetrate around the screws, leading to potential wood rot. If you don't have a place to shelter your RV from the elements, it's important to brush the roof and body with liquid vinyl from time to time.

       The rubber that seals around windows can also be easily damaged and moisture etc can easily penetrate the walls. Many motorhomes use thick plywood walls and plywood is also highly susceptible to moisture. Using reset sealing silicone everywhere will usually prevent these leaks from occurring.

       Learn how to remove the valve cover of an air conditioning unit on a roof. Remove the sheet metal to protect the metal cooling wings. Use a hose and sprayer to remove accumulated dirt and leaves. When cleaning these parts, make sure that the part is not connected to a power source that could endanger the personal safety of the cleaner.        To ensure that the air conditioner in your RV works properly and efficiently, clean the air conditioning filter frequently. An excessively dusty and stained air conditioning filter will reduce the cooling capacity and efficiency of the air conditioner. The filter is located in the RV, under the air panel on the air conditioning unit. Most RV air conditioning filters must be carefully and thoroughly rinsed in warm water. They need to be air dried before putting them back in. If the filter is torn or not clean, it is time to replace the RV A/C filter. Check and clean the filters in turn at least once a month. Most RV air conditioning units have their filters removed to reveal the evaporator coils inside. Use a torch to check these coils for any dirt or debris, and if there is, use a very flexible hoover attachment to carefully remove the dust and dirt. If you are willing to climb on top of the caravan, you should clean the external condenser coils on the air conditioner as well. This involves removing the shroud on the air conditioner, usually a couple of screws holding it on.

With the shroud off, you can use compressed air to blow out any debris that may be caught in the condenser coil. Remember to blow the air from the inside out (this is why the shroud is removed). This should be done at least once a year.
